Buy two houses, buy a boat, go mobile ... simple, right?  Riiight.

Lora and I have always dreamed of living a semi nomadic lifestyle moving around as our hearts desire. The dream would be to live part of the time near family, part of the time exploring the waters of the east coast, and part exploring the Appalachian Mountains. We call this fantasy Operation Phoenix, our rebirth.

We imagined this rebirth would come in the form of an early retirement:  Something we had years to prepare for. However, with recent family developments and the breakdown of the middle class here in Key West, we’ve had to drastically move up our initiation of Operation Phoenix. Thus the birth of Project Mayhem.

So, what is Project Mayhem? It’s the chaotic process of trying to realize the fantasy years before we’re really ready. We’re having to coordinate a move cross country and figure out what to do with Firefly, our boat. We’re having to establish new business relationships and say good-bye to old friends. Somehow, restless nights have crept into my life.

Here’s what we’ve done so far and what we’re still working on.

1. Buy a house in Maryland close to family and the waters of the Chesapeake Bay (Done)
   

2. Buy a boat to act as our mobile home for exploring the waters of the east coast (Done)
   

3. Secure jobs that will allow us to become mobile (Done)
   

4. Buy a second home ... IN GATLINBURG!! (Done)
   

5. Take our jobs remote (Done)
   

6. Move to Gatlinburg, TN (In Progress)
   

7. Establish a new Base of Operations (In Progress)
   

8. Conquer the world (In Progress)
   

Is this crazy?  No ... it’s complete mayhem!
